THE IH-30 PEGASUS BRIDGE OVER THE TRINITY RIVER

THE IH-30 PEGASUS BRIDGE OVER THE TRINITY RIVER

Industries: Highways and Bridges

A total of 24 borings were advanced for this this project. The borings were located at the river-side toe, protected side toe, and at the crest of each of the existing east- and west-side levees. The drilling plan was in accordance with US Corps of Engineers EM 1110-1-1804 Geotechnical Investigations. Two CME-75 drill rigs were used, each rig was equipped with a calibrated automatic hammer, a swing-away hydraulic grip, and three winches. Each drill rig had side port valves and pumps to facilitate rock coring operations. The underlying clays were sampled continuously to a depth of about 20 feet with a 5-inch Piston sampler.
